Canada’s Lima 2019 shooting team announced
TORONTO (June 20, 2019) – The Shooting Federation of Canada (SFC) and the Canadian Olympic Committee have announced Canada’s shooting team nominated to compete at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
Eighteen athletes have qualified for Team Canada based on performances at trials hosted in July 2018 and May 2019 at the Pan Am Games Legacy Facility / Toronto International Trap and Skeet Club in Cookstown, Ont. and the Beaverhill Sporting Clays facility in Tofield, Alta.
“I’m honoured and excited to represent Canada for women’s trap at the upcoming Games and defend my gold medal,” said 28-year-old Amanda Chudoba Obrigewitch, who won the women’s trap shooting event at TORONTO 2015. “I hope to come back with a quota spot for my sport for the Olympics in 2020.”
Fifteen Olympic shooting events in rifle, pistol and shotgun will take place from July 27 to August 3, 2019 at the Las Palmas Shooting Range on the Las Palmas Air Base in Lima, Peru. The 2019 Pan American Games in Lima present an excellent opportunity for Canadian shooters to qualify for the Olympic Games and the SFC will be targeting quotas for Tokyo 2020 during the Lima Games.
“The Shooting Federation of Canada has a strong team across all shooting disciplines,” said national pistol coach Lisa Borgerson. “We have one quota spot already and the Pan American Games is the focus for more Olympic quotas.”
Canada has already attained a quota spot for Tokyo 2020 in women’s pistol shooting thanks to Rio 2016 Olympian Lynda Kiejko’s gold medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event during the Continental Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico last November.

Prior to being named to Team Canada, all nominations are subject to approval by the COC’s Team Selection Committee following its receipt of nominations by all National Sport Federations in late June 2019.
Lima 2019 will bring together approximately 6,700 athletes from 41 nations of the Americas and feature 62 disciplines in 39 sports. It will be the largest sporting event ever held in Peru.
