COC, CPC and Petro-Canada Announce New Class of FACE Program Recipients
56 athlete and coach pairs receive $10,000
TORONTO (September 15, 2023) – Today, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) and Petro-CanadaTM announced the 2023 recipients of the Petro-Canada FACETM Grant.
The Petro-Canada Fuelling Athlete and Coaching Excellence (FACE) grant, now in its 35th year, provides financial support to both athletes and coaches as they pursue their Olympic and Paralympic dreams. Since 1988, Petro-Canada has provided over $13.5 million in financial support to more than 3,500 Canadian athletes and coaches.
“The Petro-Canada FACE program has been a pillar of the Canadian sport system for more than three decades, and in that time has supported some of Canada’s top athletes and coaches,” said David Shoemaker, CEO and Secretary General of the Canadian Olympic Committee. “We’re thrilled to have partners like Petro-Canada who share our commitment, through the Team Canada Impact Agenda, of creating a safe, inclusive, and barrier-free sport system, and who truly know the value of supporting Team Canada athletes at every stage of their journeys. I can’t wait to see what this new class accomplishes on the road to Paris 2024 and beyond.”
This year, the grant is awarded to 56 Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls, all of whom are striving to represent Team Canada but do not yet qualify for government funding. Each athlete and their coach will receive a combined $10,000 to support their training.
“Congratulations to all of the 2023 Petro-Canada FACE grant recipients,” said Karen O’Neill, CEO of the Canadian Paralympic Committee. “The FACE program has become such an integral part of the Canadian sport system over the years, providing so many athletes and coaches with more tools and opportunities to reach their goals. We can’t wait to follow along the journeys of this year’s recipients. Thank you to our valued partner Petro-Canada for your continued support of Canadian athletes and coaches, and for showcasing the incredible power of sport to make a real impact towards a more inclusive and accessible society.”

“We’ve been supporting the aspirations of Canadian athletes and coaches since 1988, ensuring they have the resources they need to reach the podium,” said Patrick Ritchie, VP, Sales and Marketing, Petro-Canada. “To us, living by the leaf means supporting those who wear it – and through FACE, we provide meaningful direct funding at a critical point on their journey to represent Canada on the world stage.”
