COC statement regarding outcomes of the National Safe Sport Summit hosted by CAC

OTTAWA (May 11, 2019) – The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) issued the following statement regarding the National Safe Sport Summit hosted by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) in Ottawa:

“The National Safe Sport Summit hosted by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), was attended by nearly 200 members of the sport community. A culmination of summits held across the country, the Ottawa Summit addressed the building of consensus for a pan-Canadian approach, starting with the development of a uniform code of conduct for safe sport. After sharing experiences, research and expertise, in particular, powerful input from athlete representatives, the changes needed were clear, as was the summit-wide commitment towards a process for a systemic shift in culture. We know the positive power of sport and we also know, to achieve that, sport must be a safe place to be. The Canadian Olympic Committee is already working with stakeholders in the Canadian sport system to collectively identify next steps and play our part in supporting the design and implementation of concrete solutions to address harassment, abuse and discrimination in sport.”
