Paris 2024: Team Canada at the end of Day 8
PARIS (August 3, 2024) – Day 8 at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has come to a close. Here is what you need to know.

TEAM CANADA INSIGHTS:
ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS:
- Ellie Black (Halifax, N.S.) finished sixth in the women’s vault final, matching Canada’s best Olympic result in the event that was first set by Kelly Brown at Los Angeles 1984.
ROWING:
- The Canadian women’s eight rowed to silver and reached the Olympic podium in the event for the second straight Games. This is Canada’s sixth Olympic medal all-time in the women’s eight.
TENNIS:
- Félix Auger-Aliassime (Montreal, Que.) finished fourth in the men’s singles event for the best-ever Olympic performance by a Canadian in singles tennis.
SWIMMING:
- Team Canada claimed its first double podium at an Olympic Summer Games since Montreal 1976 as Josh Liendo (Toronto, Ont.) and Ilya Kharun (Montreal, Que.) captured silver and bronze respectively in the 100m butterfly. The two are Canada’s first Olympic medallists in the men’s 100m butterfly in 52 years.
- Summer McIntosh (Toronto, Ont.) became the first Canadian athlete to win three gold medals in one Olympic Games, topping the podium in the women’s 200m individual medley while setting a new Olympic record (2:06.56) in the event. She is also tied with teammate Penny Oleksiak for the most medals won by a Canadian athlete at one Olympic Summer Games with four so far.
- Team Canada’s mixed 4x100m medley relay team came fifth in the event improving on their 13th place finish from Tokyo 2020 in the event’s Olympic Games debut.
