Santiago 2023: Team Canada at the end of Day 12

SANTIAGO, CHILE (November 1, 2023) – Team Canada added one silver and nine bronze to its medal total on Day 12 at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. Here is what you need to know.

TEAM CANADA’S MEDAL COUNT: 

GOLD: 35 | SILVER: 34 | BRONZE: 47 | TOTAL: 116

SCHEDULE/RESULTS: Day 12 Results and Day 13 Schedule

  • Athletics
    • Competing in her first Pan Am Games, Kaila Butler (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) won bronze in the women’s hammer throw. 
    • After suffering an injury during the high jump component of the women’s heptathlon, Georgia Ellenwood (Langley, B.C.) has withdrawn from the remainder of the competition. 
  • Equestrian – Jumping
    • Canada captured the silver medal in the team event, qualifying a full jumping team  for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. 
    • Canada secured team quota spots for Paris 2024 in each of the three equestrian disciplines at Santiago 2023.
  • Fencing
    • Three Canadian fencers captured bronze in their respective events:
      • Ruien (Angel) Xiao (Markham, Ont.), women’s individual épée 
      • Shaul Gordon (Richmond, B.C.), men’s individual sabre 
      • Fares Arfa (Laval, Que.), men’s individual sabre 
  • Squash
    • Hollie Naughton (Mississauga, Ont.) captured bronze in the women’s singles. This is Naughton’s fifth Pan Am Games medal. She was part of the silver medal women’s team at Toronto 2015 and won bronze in both women’s singles and mixed doubles, as well as a women’s team silver at Lima 2019.
  • Table Tennis
    • Mo Zhang (Vancouver, B.C.) and Eugene Wang (Aurora, Ont.) won bronze in the women’s and men’s singles, respectively. The duo also captured bronze on Day 10 when they teamed up in the mixed doubles event. 
  • Wrestling – Freestyle
    • In their Pan Am Games debuts, Nishan Randhawa (Abbotsford, B.C.) and Adam Thomson (Komoka, Ont.) secured bronze in the men’s 97kg and 74kg weight classes, respectively.
