Tricia Smith elected as ANOC Executive for Panam Sports

LIMA, PERU (September 7, 2018) – On Thursday, Panam Sports announced four-time Olympian, Olympic medallist, and Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) President, Tricia Smith was elected to represent the Americas on the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Executive Council. The elections for the positions were held in Lima, Peru during the first day of the LVII Panam Sports General Assembly.

Smith, along with Paraguayan Olympic Committee President Camilo Perez, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee Secretary General, Keith Joseph, was chosen from a slate of six candidates during a multi-round voting process. Securing votes of 24 of the 41 Panam Sports NOCs, Smith was elected to a four-year term on the third ballot.

“Congratulations to my friends Keith Joseph and Camilo Pérez on being elected to the ANOC Executive Council – I am extremely honoured to represent the Americas alongside you,” said Smith. “Thank you to my colleagues for their trust in our shared vision of protecting the integrity of sport and strengthening the Olympic and Pan/Parapan American Movement. We can be proud of our accomplishments over the years and there is much more work to be done together for the benefit of the global sport community.”

As a member of the ANOC Executive Council, Smith will be responsible for numerous important tasks within the organization including; promoting collaboration between NOCs, helping manage the finances of ANOC, recommending ANOC award recipients, and guiding the appointment of the ANOC Secretary General.
