Cédrick Brunet
Biography
Cédrick Brunet is set to make his Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026, where he will be the latest member of his family to become an Olympian. His father, Michel Brunet, competed for Canada in ice dance at Nagano 1998. His uncle, Dominick Gauthier, competed in moguls at Nagano 1998. His aunt, Jenn Heil, is a two-time Olympic medallist and will be Team Canada’s Chef de Mission at Milano Cortina 2026.
He struggled with injuries throughout 2024-25, putting his morale at such a low that there were several times he considered giving up. But with the support of his coaches and family, he decided to keep going, working on his conditioning in the gym and his technique on the ice. The effort resulting him winning his first national title in the 500m at the 2025 Canadian Championships.
Brunet made his ISU World Cup debut in December 2021. He raced in the A Division for the first time to start the 2022-23 season. He posted a career-best 12th place finish in the 500m at the first stop of the 2025-26 World Cup season.
Brunet competed at the 2022 ISU Four Continents Championships where he placed ninth in the 500m.
He made his first international appearance on the ISU Junior World Cup circuit in 2020. He then skated at the 2020 ISU World Junior Championships, breaking into the top 20 in the 500m, 1000m, and mass start. Brunet won two silver and one bronze for Team Quebec at the Red Deer 2019 Canada Winter Games.

Getting into the Sport: Started speed skating after watching Vancouver 2010… As a child, dreamed of playing hockey for the Montreal Canadiens before focusing solely on speed skating at age 17… Outside Interests: Enjoys watching sports, playing video games, playing hockey on the outdoor rink in the winter and baseball in the summer… Would like to pursue a career in kinesiology; mother Brigitte Gauthier is a physiotherapist who has attended multiple Olympic Games… Odds and Ends: Favourite motto: “Give all that you have everyday and it will pay for the future”… Younger brother Frédéric Brunet is a pro hockey player in the Boston Bruins organization…
