Derrick Ng

Biography

Derrick NgDerrick Ng is one half of the best men’s doubles team in Canada. With partner Adrian Liu, they are a force to be reckoned with in Pan American competition. Together they won bronze at the 2011 Pan American Games. In 2014 the duo won the Pan American Championships, defeating the top seeds in the final. They successfully defended their titles from 2013 and 2012 when they had been the number one seeds. Ng’s career-high doubles ranking is 25th, achieved in March 2011.

PERSONAL

Family: Father Francis Ng is from Hong Kong, mother Clara Chalifour is from Macau… Older brother Toby is also a member of the national badminton team… Getting into the Sport: First picked up a badminton racket at age 5… Badminton was the only sport his parents allowed him to play when he was young, keeping him away from contact sports… Loves the speed and physicality of badminton… Outside Interests: Enjoys cooking… Co-founder and CEO of Skinetex (professional grade kinesiology tape)… Only started training badminton full time in 2010 after doing his electrical apprenticeship for four years…
