Men’s eight pumped for final

The defending gold-medallist men’s eight crew bounced back from a shaky heat Saturday to throw down a solid performance in Monday’s repechage with a 5:27.41 performance and earn a spot in Wednesday’s final.

“This is the type of stuff we’ve been doing all year training on Elk Lake (in Victoria),” said Conlin McCabe. “We found our rhythm again and we are back in this. We know that this next race is going to define us as a crew.”

Also on Monday, the men’s coxless four crew advanced to the semifinals with a 5:50.78 in its heat.

“There hasn’t been a lot of attention on us, so we were able to fly under the radar,” said Derek O’Farrell. That allowed us to focus on executing a good race and I think that’s what we did.”
