Maple Leaf Moments: Breaking New Ground

Breaking new ground: The 2014 Winter Olympic Games will mark the debut of several new sports and among them will be slopestyle Skiing where Kaya Turski will hope to translate her X Games success into a podium finish. Turski is the most dominant female on tour having won X Games gold from 2010-12 and silver in 2013.

On this day: On February 11, 2006 skier Jennifer Heil won the moguls event in Turin to capture the first of seven gold medals for Canada. It was four year earlier on the very same day when Jamie Salé and David Pelletier were initially awarded the silver medal in pairs Figure Skating at the XIX Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City.  A judging scandal was discovered and four days later Salé and Pelletier were upgraded to be co-Olympic Champions.
