Mark McMorris edged out for first place at slopestyle event in Vail
Mark McMorris laid down a phenomenal run but was bumped to second place after Japan’s Yuki Kadono landed back-2-back triple cork 1620s in Vail, Colorado.
During the Burton US Open snowboard slopestyle finals today it seemed as though McMorris had it locked up, scoring 87.8 based his own back-to-back triple corks. However, before the Sochi bronze medallist could celebrate, Kadono laid down the 1620s to score 90.05 and put the pressure on McMorris who failed to improve on his final run. Canada’s Tyler Nicholson was third with a best score of 77.2.
Earlier in the day Spencer O’Brien rode her way to a third place finish with a score of 82.05 in women’s slopestyle.
Jamie Anderson of the USA rode a 90.95 to win. Anna Gasser of Austria scored 82.55 for second. O’Brien is the top Canadian slopestyle snowboarder, having been crowned World Champion in 2013. Spencer also competed for Team Canada at Sochi 2014. She has earned a reputation as one of the athletes pushing the sport of slopestyle to new heights.
