Humphries wins SportAccord Sportswoman of the Year
She won the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s top athlete and now Kaillie Humphries can add the SportAccord Sportswoman of the Year award to fit her expanding trophy cabinet.
The two-time Olympic champion in women’s bobsleigh, Humphries was back near the scene of her most recent Winter Games triumph in Sochi on Thursday to claim the award, which was partially voted for by fans.
“This is such a huge honour. Sport has been a major part of my life from the age of seven, and the goal of going to the Olympics is what fueled me,” Humphries said in her acceptance speech.
“I’ve done every sport possible growing up. My family gave me huge support. I grew up in a house and family that taught me anything is possible. That in addition to my coaches, therapists, everyone at my international federation and Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton, is the reason why I’m able to stand up here today. For that I thank you.”

Humphries, with brakeman Heather Moyse, won back-to-back Olympic gold medals at Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014. Humphries has since broken barriers piloting a four-man, mixed gender sled in World Cup and World Championships in the 2014-15 bobsleigh season.
