In 2020, the capital city of Japan will host the Games of the XXXII Olympiad. This will be the second time that the Olympic Games will take place in Tokyo, which previously welcomed the world in 1964.

History was made in 2016 when Rio de Janeiro, Brazil hosted the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, marking the first time that a South American country welcomed the world to an Olympic Games. It was also just the third time that the Games were held in the southern hemisphere, following Melbourne 1956 and Sydney 2000.

Canada sent its largest ever Winter Olympic team of 222 athletes to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and captured 25 medals to make it the country’s most successful Winter Games ever on foreign soil. Among the highlights were a Canadian record of four double podiums (all in freestyle skiing), including a trio of gold-silver finishes in men’s moguls, ladies’ moguls and ladies’ ski cross.
