2010 Winter Games Commemorative Book Now Available

“With Glowing Hearts / Des plus brillants exploits”, the only official commemorative book of the 2010 Games, has just been published, capturing the stories of the people, places, patriotic spirit of celebration and once-in-a-lifetime experiences of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.

Stylistically, With Glowing Hearts / Des plus brillants exploits is a unique fusion of book types: anthology meets sports tribute meets photo essay. It marks the first time an official commemorative book of the Games by the Organizing Committee has been widely available to the general public; it can be purchased at leading bookstores and online booksellers everywhere.

“We wanted to create a book that would truly celebrate the time when Canada had a smile on it’s face, a book to celebrate the success of the 2010 Games in a way that’s never been done before, and we think perhaps we’ve achieved that,” said John Furlong, Vancouver 2010 CEO. “With Glowing Hearts/Des plus brillants exploits creates the sense of really being there, at every event and special moment, as an insider. We’re proud to share it with the country and with the world.”

Highlights of With Glowing Hearts/Des plus brillants exploits include:

• The medalists, the contenders, the headlines — and the lesser-known, often untold human stories that unfolded behind the scenes;
• Insider accounts of the journey to 2010 and the Games experience; hundreds of quotes from athletes, fans and others – telling the Vancouver 2010 story in their own words;
• Stories and images of the 20 Olympic and Paralympic sports, including the rivalries, upsets and personal journeys;
• Dramatic photo spreads of iconic moments from the Ceremonies and the energetic “street atmosphere” that developed outside the venues;
• 400 pages rich with 1,200 photos, most of them never-before-seen shots by award-winning sport and documentary photographers;
• Coverage of the Games from every angle and perspective, bringing to life each moment – the great highs and lows of victory and defeat and what happened just before and just after;
• A feature collection of Games artefacts throughout the book, from athlete good luck charms to sports equipment to the iconic Vancouver 2010 Red Mittens;
• A complete listing of medalists and participant names, from Olympic and Paralympic athletes to the 25,000 volunteers.
