Canadian press room named after Starkman
Randy Starkman’s spirit is forever strong and proud in the Canadian Olympic family. Today the renowned Canadian sportswriter, who passed away in April, will be honoured with the official naming of the press room at Canada’s Olympic House in Trafalgar Square during the London 2012 Games.
“I can’t think of a greater honour for a greater guy,” said longtime sportswriter and a six-time Olympic Games peer Doug Smith of the Toronto Star.
“Randy was the hardest working, most sincere, well-respected sports journalist Canada has ever had. He’s the guy you went to with any question.”
Starkman was an authority in the media for his deep knowledge of amateur sport in Canada. He earned much respect from Canada’s Olympic athletes for his outstanding, accurate journalism and sincere personality. He had an incredible portfolio of stories and highly valued opinions that spread over 12 Olympic Games.
Starkman is survived by his wife, Mary Hynes, now a CBC Radio host, and their teenaged daughter, Ella.
