Canada’s Team Pursuit fourth place after losing to Poland

Canada has lost their Final B in the men’s team pursuit, to Poland at Adler Arena.

Denny Morrison, Lucas Makowsky and Mathieu Giroux were out ahead and had an over two second advantage at one point, but Poland caught up, led by the 1500m Olympic Champion, Zbigniew Brodka.

The Team Pursuit involves three athletes, who begin on one side of the Oval, with their opponents on the other. All three speed skaters race together, essentially chasing the other team. It’s exciting because the teams arrive at the same point on each side, around the same time in a close race. Poland was behind Canada until around the 3-minute mark. Their final time was 3:41.94. Canada was 2.33 seconds back in 3:44.27.

In Final A, the Netherlands finished of an immaculate men’s competition with the gold. Korea was second.
