Canadian Olympians arrive in Greece for International Olympic Academy

Olympians Philippe Beaudry and Martine Dugrenier have made the trip to Greece as part of the Canadian delegation at this year’s International Session for Young Participants held in Olympia.

Beaudry (fencing) and Dugrenier (wrestling) both competed for Canada at the 2008 Games in Beijing and again in London four years later.

IOC President Thomas Bach officially kicked off the 54th edition of the Session under the theme of Respect for diversity.

“The Games are proof that people from different backgrounds, cultures, religions and traditions can come together in a spirit of harmony”, he said Monday at the Opening Ceremony from the Pnyx Hill in Athens.

The purpose of this two-week exercise is to preserve and share Olympic values as well as to learn about and practice the educational and social principles of Olympism.

Close to 200 representatives from more than 100 countries worldwide, have made the trip to Greece in order to take part in the International Olympic Academy’s program.
