Canadians double up on Wimbledon finals appearances
While Eugenie Bouchard and Milos Raonic have been turning heads at home and abroad with their Wimbledon singles exploits, Canada’s doubles players have also given the country something to shout about.
On Friday, London 2012 Olympian Vasek Pospisil and his American partner Jack Sock advanced to the final of the men’s doubles tournament (‘Gentlemen’s doubles’, to use proper All England Club language).
The North American pair beat the experienced and fifth seeded duo of Leander Paes (India) and Radek Stepanek (Czech Republic) 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 6-4.
Pospisil/Sock now faces the top seeded Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, of the United States in the final.
The Canadian name that has dominated doubles tournaments for two decades, Daniel Nestor, is still going strong at Wimbledon. In mixed doubles Nestor and French teammate Kristina Mladenovic – the defending champions – are in the semifinals.
