Nation’s curling body rocks a new look
Canada is undoubtedly the world’s most dominant curling country and on Friday the national body that governs Canadian success revealed a new name and look.
Curling Canada is now the name of the former Canadian Curling Association. It also changed its emblem to a shield featuring a curling rock and the Canadian maple leaf. The simplicity “conveys the essential information without words,” says the organization’s website.
The emblem was released just as the Brier – the national men’s championship – gets underway in Calgary, a week after the Tournament of Hearts saw Olympic champion Team Jennifer Jones of Manitoba take the national women’s crown in Moose Jaw. Men’s Olympic gold medal-winner Team Brad Jacobs is competing in the Brier for Northern Ontario.
Since curling was re-added to the Olympic calendar in 1998, no Canadian team – men or women – has failed to win a medal at the Winter Games.
