Canada Runs: next series from Olympic.ca
Despite the persisting below freezing temperatures and cold winds in much of the country, we are assured by our calendars that spring is around the corner.
And springtime in Canada inevitably brings runners out in droves.
In the next few months, countless road races and track and field competitions will take place throughout the country, with hundreds of thousands of Canadians taking part in some capacity.
Starting March 23, Olympic.ca will be exploring running and more broadly, athletics.
We’ll look at recreational athletes as they work toward goals; the growing lure of distance running as a fitness and ‘bucket list’ motivation for many Canadians.
With Toronto 2015 and Rio 2016 as the next two major sporting events on the Olympic Team’s calendar, we’ll also delve into the world of Athletics Canada and their sprinters, distance runners, race walkers, jumpers and multi-event specialists.
There will be photos, videos, stories, charts and whatever else we can get our hands on in telling the tale of running in Canada from March 23 to April 30.
