Raonic forced to retire from Monte Carlo match with foot injury
Milos Raonic’s strong start to the clay-court season has been put on ice – at least temporarily – as the Canadian tennis star had to retire from his quarterfinal match at Monte Carlo Masters.
According to the Associated Press, a foot injury forced Raonic out of the tournament while down 5-2 to Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic. When the doctor went to examine Raonic, images from the court showed his right foot was strapped for support.
Raonic had previously received treatment during his Thursday match against Robredo, which was pushed to three sets before the Canadian triumphed.

Raonic, a fourth seed at this prestigious Masters 1000 tournament, won his first two matches over Portugal’s Joao Sousa and Spanish veteran (world no. 20) Robredo, who has 11 career clay-court titles and a 68% winning record, easily his most successful surface. Monte Carlo is the first tournament in which Raonic has contested on clay this year as players on the ATP tour prepare for the French Open.
Canada’s next Davis Cup tie against Belgium in July will also be on clay.
