ESPYs: McMorris nominated again, vote until July 15
Olympic snowboarder Mark McMorris is up for an ESPY for the second time, with the big show this Wednesday, July 15th.
The Sochi slopestyle medallist is nominated for ‘Best Male Action Sports Athlete’. The Saskatchewan boy became the first-ever Canadian nomination in the category, back in 2013. A Canadian has yet to win it. This season McMorris won double gold at X Games, raising his gold total at the event to five, while making a soon-to-be-released movie.
“It takes a huge group of guys and I’m honoured to be in there, if I won an ESPY it’d definitely be a big award for me,” said McMorris who is nominated next to Ryan Dungey (motorcross), Tucker Hibbert (snowmobile), Nyjah Huston (skateboarding), and Josh Sheehan (freestyle motorcross).

“Mostly it’s really cool for me to be nominated with a skater, a sport I share a huge passion for and started doing before even snowboarding,” commented McMorris who spends his down-time in California, skating and surfing, saying the warm-weather breaks ‘re-motivate’ him to ride.
There are a lot of other categories at the ESPYs, including ‘Best NHL player’ featuring four Canadian Olympians: Carey Price, John Tavares, Jonathan Toews, and 2015 Conn Smythe winner Duncan Keith. If you want to vote for any of them there is a tricky pop-up window to navigate.
So here’s an example: 1. Go to the ESPYs website 2. Click on the category you want 3. Vote
Big air has been added to PyeongChang 2018, joining snowboard slopestyle. McMorris quit doing big air competitions in the lead up to Sochi, since slopestyle success was the goal at the time. Now he has a busy few winters ahead, “I’m a competitive guy and I like winning so I’ll be working my butt off,” he says.
