Canada’s first medal of X Games Aspen came courtesy of Olympic snowboarder Spencer O’Brien, who delivered gold in women’s slopestyle on Friday.
O’Brien was in third place behind eventual bronze medallist Hailey Langland of the United States and New Zealand’s Christy Prior after the first of three runs. Then came her second outing.
It was on the second of three attempts that O’Brien got ahead of the field with a clean run that impressed the judges, giving her a score of 91.00.
Olympic gold and nine-time X Games Aspen medallist Jamie Anderson of the United States sneaked in for the silver medal with an 89.00 on her final run, ahead of Langland’s 88.00 on her second attempt.
This was O’Brien’s fifth X Games Aspen medal and first gold.
