Thomas Osborne

Heavyweight boxer Thomas “Tommy” Osborne was denied his chance to compete at Berlin 1936 when he was beaten by decision by unranked boxer George Bird for the right to represent Canada. He then went on to compete for Canada at the 1938 Commonwealth Games in Sydney capturing the heavyweight division gold medal over South Africa’s Claude Sterley.

In his professional career, Osborne had seven fights, six of them at the Forum in Montréal and one at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, with a record of four wins and three losses, all by knock-outs.

Osborne was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1953.
