TEAM CANADA INSIGHTS:
HOCKEY
- Team Canada has won its fifth gold medal in Olympic women’s hockey since it was added to the program at Nagano 1998.
- Sarah Nurse has set the record for most points scored (18) at a single Olympic Winter Games. The previous record (17) was held by Hayley Wickenheiser at Turin 2006.
- Marie-Philip Poulin has now scored in every gold medal game she’s played in at the Olympic Winter Games (2010, 2014, 2018, 2022). She’s the first (and only) player male or female to score in four Olympic gold medal games.
FREESTYLE SKIING
- With a silver in ski cross, Marielle Thompson has won her second Olympic medal (gold – Sochi 2014). She joins fellow Canadian Kelsey Serwa (Gold – PyeongChang 2018, Silver – Sochi 2014) as the event’s only multi-Olympic medallists.
- On Day 14, Brady Leman will look to defend his Olympic title in men’s ski cross while Cassie Sharpe looks to do the same in the women’s halfpipe event. They both would be the first Canadians to accomplish that feat in their respective events.
LONG TRACK SPEED SKATING
- Antoine Gélinas-Beaulieu, Connor Howe and Laurent Dubreuil will compete in the men’s 1000m on Day 14. Only two Canadians are Olympic medallists in this event – Gaétan Boucher (Gold – Sarajevo 1984, Silver – Lake Placid) and Denny Morrison (Silver – Sochi 2014)
