TEAM CANADA INSIGHTS

ALPINE SKIING

  • Four Canadians finished in the top 30 of the women’s slalom. Erin Mielzynski and Laurence St-Germain placed 16th and 17th, respectively. Ali Nullmeyer ended up 21st while Amelia Smart was 27th.

FREESTYLE SKIING

  • Evan McEachran was the lone Canadian in the final of the men’s big air, the first time this event is on the Olympic program. He finished ninth overall.

SHORT TRACK SPEED SKATING

  • With a silver, Steven Dubois has won Team Canada’s third-ever Olympic medal in the men’s 1500m. Charles Hamelin won gold at Sochi 2014 after Marc Gagnon captured bronze 20 years ago at Salt Lake City 2002. Gagnon is now an assistant coach with the national team.

SNOWBOARD

  • As the pandemic began to shut down the world in March 2020, Meryeta O’Dine lost her brother, Brandon, to cancer. The Canadian snowboarder had to re-learn how to be an Olympic-level athlete, working with psychologists to help fight anxiety and depression. O’Dine’s work paid off Wednesday, winning her first Olympic medal, a bronze, in the women’s snowboard cross event at Beijing 2022.

  • Team Canada has won a medal in all but one Olympic women’s snowboard cross event since it made its debut at Turin 2006.

COVID-19 UPDATE:
