Canadian Olympic Foundation announces major gift from Giuffre Family to connect Canadians with Olympians
TORONTO (November 24, 2020) – Inspired by the bravery and drive that Canadian athletes have shown during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian Olympic Foundation announced a $250,000 donation by Anthony and L. Britt Giuffre on Tuesday, to help Canadians connect virtually with their Olympic heroes.
This high impact investment was made as a way to encourage and enable all Canadians. This gift provides Canadians the opportunity to join in on the Olympic Movement from the comfort of their own home, all while being able to talk to one of their heroes. The series, titled “A Conversation With,” will bring athletes to a virtual platform where they will be able to share their stories, successes and pride in our country to all their fans at home.
“We feel so fortunate to be able to give to the Foundation during what’s been a difficult year for so many people, and we look forward to seeing the impact of the ‘A Conversation With’ series in the years to come,” said L. Britt Giuffre.
“High-performance sport is one way to tilt our society toward something better – it gives people discipline and direction in the early stages of their lives and allows them to fill their box of skills in a way that can translate to their careers, relationships, and goals ,” said Anthony Giuffre, founder and CEO of Avenue Living. “The only way to achieve this for everyone – regardless of race or gender – is to have well-funded sports programs.”
Anthony Giuffre, who sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Olympic Foundation, and his family were motivated and moved by how athletes were willing to tell their stories of leadership and transformation throughout their Olympic journey. The Giuffre Family wants to continue to enable Canadians to be inspired by athletes alongside their perseverance, resilience and pride during a time of adversity where many need to hear that good things are possible for all of us.
“Thank you to the Giuffre Family for believing in the extraordinary potential of Canadian athletes,” said Cindy Yelle, Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Olympic Foundation. “Your generous gift unites us all, athletes and Canadians through the Olympic Movement, enabling us all to recognize our own personal aspirations and be capable of reaching our highest goals.”
The next webinar in the series funded by Anthony and L. Britt Giuffre will take place on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, and will feature Canadian Olympic Champion and host of The Amazing Race Canada, Jon Montgomery.
The general public is invited to join the Canadian Olympic Foundation for ‘A Conversation With Jon Montgomery’ and be inspired by one of Team Canada’s great Olympic Champions and icons. The link to register for this chat, taking place on November 25th at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00pm ET, can be found here.
