COC and CPC Statement on Federal Budget 2025

TORONTO (November 5, 2025) — On Wednesday, the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee issued the following statement on the 2025 federal budget:

Over the course of 2025, Canadians have witnessed the unique power of sport to unite, inspire, and rally the country – a reminder of what makes Canada strong.

As Budget 2025 aims to set a new foundation for a more confident, secure and resilient Canada, we believe that sport plays an essential role in the pursuit of these goals. With 2026 expected to be a year defined by sporting moments, we see a clear opportunity for the federal government to forge a transformative partnership with the sport community, leverage private capital, and increase investment in sport to ensure it is accessible for generations to come. 

We note the government’s planned capital investment in infrastructure, and view it as an important moment to address the national sport infrastructure deficit, creating more active, accessible and vibrant communities across the country.

Canadians care deeply about sport – from the grassroots where children learn life skills and healthy habits, to the high-performance athletes proudly representing Canada on the world stage. The enriching moments Canadians experience, both as participants and cheering fans, should not be taken for granted. We continue to advocate for federal investment in National Sport Organization core funding as part of a plan to transform the Canadian sport system and the nation.

We look forward to partnering with Prime Minister Mark Carney and the federal government to realize sport’s full potential in 2026, and we thank Secretary of State (Sport) Adam van Koeverden for his ongoing leadership and advocacy.
