COC Statement on Future of Sport in Canada Commission Preliminary Report
TORONTO (August 28, 2025) Following the release of its preliminary report, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) commends the efforts of the Future of Sport in Canada Commission to build a safer and more inclusive sport system. Abuse and maltreatment have no place in sport, and the COC remains committed to building an athlete-centered system that is safe, inclusive, and barrier-free.
The COC believes that sport, when done right, has the power to transform Canada for the better. The report echoes priorities we’ve long championed and is an important step in the work to build, align, and modernize a sport system that serves Canadian athletes across the country, at all levels, from grassroots to high performance.
As the commission proceeds with its important work over the coming months, we will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to build the safe and inclusive sport system Canadians deserve – one that requires strong leadership and, crucially, increased investment from the federal government.
We will take the time to carefully review the commission’s full report, and we look forward to helping shape the future of sport in Canada.
