COC statement on Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter
TORONTO (June 10, 2020) – The Canadian Olympic Committee shared the following statement regarding Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter
During this time of protest and self-reflection, we remain determined to listen to our Team Canada athletes so we can best stand united against racism, both casual and systemic. The Canadian Olympic Committee will work with our Athletes’ Commission in identifying opportunities for Canadian Olympians to continue to maximize the athlete voice. Following today’s statement of the IOC, the Canadian Olympic Committee fully supports the initiative of the IOC Athletes’ Commission to explore ways athletes can express themselves at Games consistent with the principles enshrined in the Olympic Charter. We look forward to and are encouraged by this vital dialogue.
