Paris 2024: Team Canada at the end of Day 3
PARIS (July 29, 2024) – Day 3 at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has come to a close. Here is what you need to know.

TEAM CANADA INSIGHTS:
BASKETBALL:
- Natalie Achonwa (Guelph, Ont.) became the first basketball player to appear at four Olympic Games for Canada. Today’s game against France marked her 16th career game at the Olympic Games, the most in Canada’s women’s national team history.
DIVING:
- Nathan Zsombor-Murray (Pointe-Claire, Que.) and Rylan Wiens (Saskatoon, Sask.) won bronze in the men’s synchronized 10m platform to become Canada’s first ever medallists in the event. It is Canada’s first Olympic medal in any men’s diving event since Beijing 2008.
JUDO:
- Christa Deguchi (Shiojiri, Japan) won Canada’s first gold medal at Paris 2024, standing atop the podium in the women’s 57kg judo event. She is the first Canadian judoka to be crowned Olympic champion.
TENNIS:
- Leylah Annie Fernandez (Laval, Que.) advanced to the third round of the women’s singles tennis tournament. This is the furthest a Canadian woman has ever advanced in the Olympic singles tournament.
SWIMMING:
- Summer McIntosh (Toronto, Ont.) is the first Canadian swimmer to be crowned Olympic champion in the women’s 400m individual medley. McIntosh’s medal count at Paris 2024 is now at two following her silver medal performance in the 400m freestyle on Day 1.

- 2:00 pm CEST: Athlete celebration featuring mountain bike and tennis athletes (Canadian Tire Celebration Arena)
- 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm CEST: Intimate Performance and Concert: Loud presented by Air Canada (Air Canada Flight Deck & Canadian Tire Celebration Arena)
