Alex Moore

Biography

Alex Moore will make his Olympic debut when he hits the mat in the men’s 86kg freestyle event at Paris 2024. He secured his spot after finishing in the top two at the Pan American Olympic Qualifier in March 2024. That was despite breaking his hand just seven weeks before the competition.

Moore is no stranger to injuries. He had been one of the top hopes to make the Canadian team for Tokyo 2020, but an ACL tear two weeks before the Olympic trials meant surgery and what he thought was the end of his Olympic dream. When the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the Games by a year, Moore received an unexpected lifeline. He was given the opportunity to face the winner of the trials to determine who would advance to the Olympic Qualification Tournament. Unfortunately, one week before the wrestle-off, Moore tore his labrum in his right shoulder. Despite the injury, he managed to win the wrestle-off, but was unable to secure a quota spot for Tokyo 2020.

Moore won 86kg bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, followed by silver at the 2023 Pan American Championships. He also represented Canada at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games where he finished sixth in the 63kg weight class.
