Brandon Hagel

Biography

Brandon Hagel is set to make his Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026. Hagel won gold in his international debut at the 2021 IIHF World Championship. It was his first appearance with the national team program at any level. He returned to the IIHF World Championship in 2024, scoring his first international goal in a preliminary round win over Great Britain.

Hagel was part of Canada’s championship win at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, picking up one assist.

Hagel was drafted in the sixth round, 159th overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, but eventually signed with Chicago, making his NHL debut in March 2020. In March 2022 he was traded to Tampa Bay at the deadline and helped the Lightning reach the Stanley Cup final. In 2024-25 he set a new career high with 90 points (35 goals, 55 assists) and was a Second Team All-Star selection.

Hagel played junior hockey with Red Deer in the WHL, where he holds the team record in assists. He served as an assistant captain for two seasons and was a WHL Second Team All-Star selection in 2019.
