Biography

Jayde Riviere won gold with Canada during her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 where she was the second youngest member of the team. She played full time during Canada’s preliminary round matches against Chile and Great Britain and saw action as a substitute in the quarterfinal and final.

Riviere made her debut with the senior national team in a series of friendlies in 2017 and 2018 before being named to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup squad at just 18 years old. She appeared in three games for Canada in France, starting one. She scored her first goal with the senior team at the 2020 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament, helping Canada finish second to secure their spot at Tokyo 2020. In 2021, Riviere played for the Canadian team at the inaugural SheBelieves Cup, helping Canada finish third.

Riviere dislocated her knee during her international debut at the 2016 U17 CONCACAF Championships and had to watch from the side as Canada won bronze. She was fit to join the team for the U17 FIFA World Cup later that year, appearing in two games, and also won a silver medal with the U15 team at the CONCACAF Championship.

In 2018, Riviere played on the U20 team at the CONCACAF Championship. After falling to eventual champions Mexico in the semifinal, Canada had to defeat Haiti for bronze to qualify for the U20 World Cup but lost 1-0. Back with the U17 team later that summer, Riviere found herself in the exact same situation at the U17 CONCACAF Championship, losing to Mexico in the semis and needing to win against Haiti. This time she and her teammates came away with bronze to qualify for the U17 FIFA World Cup. She started all five matches for Canada in Uruguay, losing out on the bronze medal to New Zealand.

Riviere plays collegiately for the University of Michigan, anchoring the back line to six clean sheets in her freshman year and being named to the 2019 Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
