Biography

Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu made her senior international debut at the FINA Grand Prix in Gatineau in 2015. Two months later, she won her first Grand Prix medal, a 3m springboard bronze, in Madrid.

Prior to the 2017 season, Citrini-Beaulieu began what would become a highly successful 3m synchro partnership with Jennifer Abel. She had been disappointed with her result at the 2016 Nationals and in overhauling her technique, she realized how similar she now was to Abel, who was also looking for a new synchro partner.

In their first international competition together, they won Grand Prix gold in Rostock, Germany. A month later, they stood on a FINA World Series podium together for the first time, winning bronze in Guangzhou, China. They capped the season by winning 3m synchro silver in Citrini-Beaulieu’s debut at the FINA World Championships.

In 2018, the duo won four more World Series medals (two silver, two bronze) and won silver at the FINA World Cup. They followed that in 2019 with three more World Series medals (two silver, one bronze) and finished second at the FINA World Championships for the second straight time. That medal secured their spots in the 3m synchro event for Tokyo 2020.

In February 2020, Citrini-Beaulieu and Abel won gold at the FINA World Series in Montreal before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all competitions. When they resumed, the duo won silver at the FINA World Cup in May 2021. When she made her Olympic debut a couple of months later, Citrini-Beaulieu won silver in the 3m synchro event with Abel at Tokyo 2020.
