Swim team ready to answer

LONDON – The Canadian Olympic Swim Team is currently finalizing its preparation for the London 2012 Games in Olbia, Italy, and according to Head Coach, Randy Bennett, the game plan is on target.

“We’re in a great setting, the team is meeting our expectations as far as training and the overall chemistry is great,” said Bennett.

Two-time Olympian Richard Hortness, of London, ON said “everybody has been looking good right now. We’ve spent two weeks getting ready. Somebody is doing something fast everyday. I think the team is looking at doing something special.”

“The focus here in Italy is to tweak the small details, rest and stay healthy,” said Charles Francis of Montreal. “It’s great here, nice and warm.”

The energy is starting to build within the team.

“We’re getting excited, we’ve got a couple of days left and we’re going to the Olympics,” said first time Olympian, Blake Worsley of Victoria, BC.

Worsley is not new to international racing. “I think this competition is bigger and it’s something we all dream of. It’s just exciting we now get to do it.”

The 33 member-strong will arrive in London on July 24th and get to dive into the main competition the following morning.

Competition starts on Saturday, July 28th.
