Homan hangs on for bronze

Rachel Homan (Ottawa, ON) downed USA’s Erika Brown 8-6 Sunday to claim a bronze medal at the world women’s curling championship in Riga, Latvia.

After being edged out 8-7 by Scotland in the semifinal match, Homan came back to secure the third podium spot.

Homan told reporters she tried to forget about everything and return to the confident play her Ottawa-based rink had been enjoying all week.

This was the first tournament appearance for the foursome of Homan, Emma Miskew, Lisa Weagle and Alison Kreviazuk. Homan beat Jennifer Jones (Winnipeg, MB) last month to earn a qualifying sport at the world championship. Jones earned the world title in 2008.
