Thompson takes World Cup gold, Leman lands bronze in Italy

Marielle Thompson won gold while Brady Leman captured bronze in ski cross at the second FIS World Cup stop in Watles, Italy.

After placing eighth in Saturday’s competition, Thompson came back strong in Sunday’s race finishing first in every heat. The Sochi 2014 Olympic gold medallist captured her second title of the season, after winning the opening World Cup stop in Montafon, Austria. Thompson is currently fourth in the ski cross World Cup rankings.

Leman went into the competition looking for his fourth podium finish of the season. Despite battling challenging weather conditions, the Canadian improved his fifth place finish from Saturday, with a bronze medal. Leman is currently second in the men’s World Cup rankings, followed by teammate Chris Del Bosco.

Next weekend, Thompson and Leman will look to continue their podium success at home as they compete in the only Canadian stop on the World Cup circuit. The two-day competition will run January 22 and 23 in Nakiska, Alberta.
