Our deepest condolences go out to Randy’s family, friends and colleagues.”

-Marcel Aubut, President, Canadian Olympic Committee

“The Canadian Paralympic Committee is shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Randy Starkman. Randy was a fixture of the Canadian amateur sport landscape and a passionate voice for all athletes. His knack for uncovering interesting stories and telling the human side of sport was unparalleled, and he will be greatly missed by the entire Paralympic sport community. He touched many lives not just across Canada, but around the world. Our deepest sympathies extend out to his family; Canadian sport has lost a great friend today.”

-David Legg, President, Canadian Paralympic Committee

“Randy was a friend and a big part of a lot of athletes’ careers. What made Randy so special was that he did not just cover the Olympic Games or the World Championships. Rather, he was always there, sharing the athlete’s journey with his readers. Canadian athletes will miss him very much.”

-Deidra Dionne, Chair, Canadian Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission

“Randy was more than just a talented writer. He was on the athletes’ side. He always treated athletes with respect and his hard work resulted in countless young athletes being introduced to the Canadian public. There is a great void in the Canadian sport family.”

-Mark Tewksbury, 2012 Canadian Olympic Team Chef de Mission

“For years, Canadian athletes have shone a little brighter and reached more fans, thanks to the hard work of Randy Starkman. He transcended his role through his commitment to excellence and to the young role models he helped introduce to Canadians. We will miss you, Randy.”

-Sylvie Bernier, 2012 Canadian Olympic Team Assistant Chef de Mission

“Randy Starkman was a trusted voice among the athletes. He was a respected authority on the journey of an athlete from the grassroots to the Olympic stadium and ultimately the podium. Randy’s understanding of the hard work, sacrifice and passion required to excel as an athlete mirrored his own dedication to the craft of journalism. His work touched everyone in the sport community. The London Games will not be the same without Randy there to tell our athletes’ journey. He will be missed but always remembered by all of us.”
