Bobsleigh team a hit at hospital
Montreal Children’s Hospital patients were treated to a surprise today, as they received the new Canadian Olympic Mittens, delivered by members of the newly announced 2012-2013 Canadian National Bobsleigh Team.
The event sparked some emotion as well as new inspiration for the Canadian sliders as they kick off their last World Cup season before the 2014 Games in Sochi.
“We as athletes are so fortunate to go out and do what we do every day,” said 2010 Olympian and World Championship silver medallist bobsledder Jesse Lumsden. “I relish the opportunity to meet and spend some time with Canadian youth. I can’t think of a better way to kick off our World Cup season than to enjoy this opportunity as a team to have a positive impact on the kids in the Montreal Children’s Hospital.”
The hospital visit coincided with the naming of the 2012-13 National Bobsleigh Team. And for 2010 Olympian Justin Kripps, the location was perfect.
“I enjoyed having the team announcement at the Children’s Hospital,” he said. “At the end of the day, a huge reason we are out there representing Canada is to inspire the children of the nation, and this is an awesome way to accomplish that goal.”
The Canadian Bobsleigh Team will hit the start line for the season-opening World Cup in Lake Placid, N.Y., November 5-10, 2012. Canada will host a World Cup stop at the Whistler Sliding Centre, November 19-25.
