Maple Leaf Moments: Quadruple Threat

Quadruple threat: On the 14th day of competition at Vancouver 2010 Canada won four medals.  Three of these were won by the men’s short track Speed Skating team, with Charles Hamelin (Sainte-Julie, QC) and François-Louis Tremblay (Alma, QC) taking gold and bronze in the 500m and just 30 minutes later helping the 5,000m relay team to gold.  A silver medal was added by the women’s Curling team skipped by Cheryl Bernard (Calgary, AB).  Canada has similar medal hopes for Day 14 at Sochi 2014 in those same short track events along with the gold medal match in men’s Curling.

On this day:  The Canadian women’s Hockey team defeats the United States by a score of 3-2 to win its first Olympic gold medal on February 21, 2002 in Salt Lake City.  It is a reversal of four years earlier when the United States won the first-ever Olympic gold medal in women’s hockey.
