Dominique Bouchard wins silver at Arena Pro Swim Series in Orlando

Dominique Bouchard won silver in the women’s 100 metre backstroke at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Orlando, Florida on Friday.

The Canadian raced to a second place finish in a time of one minute 0.70 seconds. London 2012 Olympic champion, Missy Franklin from the United States, took the top spot on podium in 59.80s. Brazilian Etiene Medeiros finished third in 1:01.43. Canada’s Danielle Hanus also competed in the final and finished sixth in a time of 1:02.32.

Bouchard had several strong international performances in 2015, including a second place finish in the 200m backstroke at the 2015 Pan American Games. The Canadian went on to finish sixth at the FINA World Championships in the same event.

At the four month mark to the summer Olympics, Canadians swimmers will vie for a Rio 2016 qualification spot at the Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials, from April 5 to 10 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Complex.
