Brown sprints to Diamond League silver in Rome
Aaron Brown won a close battle for second, in the men’s 200m metre at the Rome Diamond League in Italy on Thursday.
The London 2012 Olympian edged out Panama’s Alonso Edward, to secure silver in a time of 20.24 seconds. Edward finished just behind Brown in 20.25s, Ameer Webb from the United States won in 20.04s. Edward and Webb currently lead the event’s overall Diamond League rankings with 20 points, while Brown’s second place finish gave him six.

Six other Canadians competed at the Diamond League event, including national 800m record holder Melissa Bishop, who opened her season with a seventh place finish in one minute 59.97s. Taylor Milne finished 15th in men’s 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 8:30.04s, just missing the Canadian Olympic standard of 8:28 seconds.
