Van Landeghem and Oleksiak return to Mare Nostrum podium

Chantal Van Landeghem and Penny Oleksiak each picked up a bronze medal at the Mare Nostrum Tour’s final stop in Barcelona on Saturday.

Van Landeghem followed up her Mare Nostrum 50 metre freestyle silver from Wednesday, with another podium in Spain. The Canadian’s time of 24.81 seconds, won bronze in Saturday’s event. Sweden’s Sarah Sjöström won the competition in 24.25s, followed by Great Britain’s Francesca Halsall who touched the wall in 24.63 seconds to claim silver.

After winning three medals on the circuit’s last stop in France, Oleksiak added a bronze in the women’s 100m butterfly with a time of 58.27 seconds. The gold medal went to world record holder Sjöström, who won in 56.96s. Ikke Rikako of Japan finished second with a time of 57.93s.

Olympic-bound swimmer Taylor Ruck almost added a third bronze medal on Saturday. Her time of one minute 58.61s, was only 0.03s off the 200m freestyle podium.
