Destination Milano Cortina
Lesson description
The Destination Milano Cortina curriculum features four booklets that can be used throughout the winter to bring the Olympic spirit into your classroom with engaging activities that celebrate the power of sport, culture, and inclusion, as well as the importance of staying active. Although each booklet has a specific focus, each one will feature different components of the Olympics and explore its importance to athletes. The booklets are structured as follows:
- Teacher’s Guide is packed with fun ideas for hosting your own Olympic Winter Games at school! It includes activities for a week or a single day, with games, team building, and leadership opportunities. Students can get into Olympic values, decorate, create cheers, and join in some friendly competition. Everyone can join in!
- Exhibition Sports gets students involved with fun, competitive activities during Olympic Winter Week! From a Free Skate competition to a Biathlon relay, Olympic Floorball, and an Obstacle Course, these events let everyone get active and earn points for their country. Leadership, teamwork, and adaptations for all abilities are encouraged throughout.
- Olympic Winter Sports Day brings a variety of fun, team-based activities where students can dive into sports like Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Bobsleigh, and Curling. Each event challenges participants to race, aim, and work together, all while racking up points to boost their country’s score and enjoy some winter fun!
- Komak’s Journal encourages students to build leadership skills, focusing on enthusiasm, understanding others’ abilities, leading by influence, and fostering teamwork. Each day encourages self-reflection through journal prompts, helping students learn to lead with kindness, patience, and collaboration, while understanding the importance of supporting and motivating others.
- Podium Pages is filled with fun facts, athlete’s bios and activities for each day of the Olympic Winter Games. The student printable version has a smaller number of pages but contains all the best features; medal counts, journal activities, athlete’s insights and sport of the day.
- Athlete’s Stories of triumph and disappointment can engage learners in discussions about important value issues. Through the stories and challenges of Olympic athletes, children and youth can explore and connect values to their lives, and perhaps begin to see their world in new and different ways.
- Olympic Scavenger Hunt is a fun and interactive way to learn about the host country of the Olympic Winter Games. So, grab your map, sit down with your computer or cell phone, and get ready to race around Italy looking for clues. Collect the right answers to solve the mystery riddle.
