Biography

  • Won bronze in women’s kata at the 2023 Pan American Championships, her fourth appearance at the tournament 
  • Made her debut on the Karate1 Series A in November 2017 in Okinawa, Japan; earned a career best seventh-place finish on the series in April 2023 in Richmond, B.C. 
  • Debuted on the Karate 1 Premier League in 2016 
  • In 2022 won gold at the Commonwealth Championships and bronze at the FISU University World Cup Combat Sports in Samsun, Turkey 

A Little More About Claudia

Getting into the Sport: After immigrating from Peru at age 5, started karate two years later, following older brother Alejandro into the sport at the studio across the street from the family’s new home in Ladner, B.C… Began competing at age 15… Older sister, Estefania, was a member of Canada’s National Karate team… Outside Interests: Enjoys trying new sports/activities (hiking, snowboarding, skiing), spending time at the beach, watching memes and laughing uncontrollably by herself… Graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science degree (major in Biomedical Physiology & Kinesiology: Active Health & Rehab) and a Certificate in Occupational Ergonomics… Works part-time at Starbucks which sponsors her as an athlete… Would like to go back to school to study either physiotherapy or become a Physical Education teacher…
