Biography

Devon Toews is set to make his Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026. He made his national team debut as a member of the championship-winning Canadian squad at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off.

Toews only previous international experience came as a member of Canada West at the 2012 World Junior A Challenge where he won a silver medal.

After going undrafted for two years, Toews was selected in the fourth round, 108th overall, by the New York Islanders in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Upon turning pro in 2016, he joined the AHL affiliate in Bridgeport and was named to the 2017 AHL All-Rookie team, leading all first-year players in assists (41). He made his NHL debut in December 2018 and spent two seasons with the Islanders. A trade in the summer of 2021 sent him to Colorado where he formed a strong partnership with fellow Canadian teammate, Cale Makar. He helped the Avalanche lift the Stanley Cup at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Toews played two seasons of junior hockey with the Surrey Eagles. In 2012-13 he won the BCHL Championship and Western Canada Cup, earning tournament MVP honours at the latter. He was also named the Top Defenceman of the 2013 RBC Cup.

From there he joined the NCAA ranks with Quinnipiac University. In 2016 he led the Bobcats to the 2016 ECAC Championship and the final of the NCAA Frozen Four. He was a two-time ECAC All-Academic Team selection and was named a Conference Second Team All-Star in 2016.
