Biography

  • Competed at the WKF World Championships in 2018 and 2021; achieved a career highlight in 2021 when she made it to a bronze medal match and finished fifth overall in the -68kg event
  • Won bronze at -68kg four consecutive Pan American Championships (2018, 2019, 2022, 2023) 
  • Was a two-time gold medallist at the Pan American Junior Championships in 2016 and 2017
  • Missed qualifying for Tokyo 2020 by one spot after finishing fourth in the +61kg event at the Olympic Qualification Tournament in June 2021  
  • Finished seventh at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama  
  • Made her debut in K1 Premier League in 2018

A Little More About Melissa

Getting into the Sport: Started in karate at age 4… Comes from a family of black belts… Started training after watching two older sisters train in the basement with their father who was also their coach… Has dreamed of representing Team Canada since watching the Beijing 2008 Opening Ceremony… Outside Interests: Enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and dog, Meeko (who she calls while away for competitions)… Pursuing a Bachelor degree in information security at Sheridan College… Odds and Ends: Favourite motto: “Be in the moment”…
