Mitch Hupé

Biography

Mitch Hupé won two silver medals at Santiago 2023, which was his debut at the Pan American Games. After teaming up with François Lavoie to reach the podium in the men’s doubles event, he added a second silver medal in the men’s singles event. He had placed first in the ranking round to advance to the semifinals.

Hupé started bowling competitively at age 12. He made his first provincial team and represented Manitoba at the Canadian National Youth Championships in the bantam division. He began dedicating more time to the sport, which led to him attending Wichita State University where he received the guidance of some of bowling’s most renowned coaches. In 2015, his team won the Intercollegiate Team Championship title.

Hupé achieved a career highlight in 2018 when he won his first gold medal on the world stage at the IBF World Championships in Hong Kong in the Master’s event. In 2023, he was part of a milestone moment as Canada won its first ever gold medal in the men’s team event at the IBF World Championships in Kuwait.

Hupé won his first Professional Bowlers Association title at the 2023 Roth/Holman Doubles with Packy Hanrahan, making him the first Manitoban and just third Canadian ever to earn a PBA championship.

Among some of his other career accomplishments are a gold medal in the trios event at the 2016 Men’s Pan American Bowling Confederation Championships, where he also won bronze in doubles and bronze in all-events. At the continental championships in 2019, he added another bronze in doubles as well as a silver in the team event. Hupé is a two-time national champion, taking the Canadian title in 2019 and 2023.
