Biography
Sam Murray made his international debut as an elite national team member at the 2014 IRF World Championships. Murray’s first international medal came at the 2016 World Championships, where he won bronze in men’s singles. At the 2018 World Championships he won bronze in men’s doubles and advanced to the quarterfinals in singles.
In 2019, Murray and doubles partner Coby Iwaasa began to make their mark together internationally, winning silver at the Pan Am Championships. They made it to the top of the podium with a gold medal win at the 2022 Pan Am Championships.
At the 2022 World Championships, Murray was a triple medallist. He won silver in mixed doubles with Frédérique Lambert and teamed up with Iwaasa to win silver in the men’s team event and bronze in men’s doubles.
Murray has played on the International Pro-Tour (IRT) for 12 seasons. In 2018, he advanced to his first pro-tour final and in January 2021, he won his first Grand Slam title. He has been ranked as high as fifth in singles and in doubles on the tour.
Murray is a five-time Canadian Open champion in singles. He is a six-time Canadian Open champion in doubles. In total, Murray has been on the podium 18 times at the elite national level.
Murray also competed for Canada at the World Junior Championships winning four medals, all in doubles.
